LEWIS TAYLOR - STONED PART 1
Lewis Taylor "Stoned part 1" Album Review
Imagine Marvin Gaye crossed with the Beach Boys
Reviewing this album is difficult , because I feel that some of Lewis's fans would like to keep him to themselves . I prefer not to as I've enjoyed listening to this record so much .
I'll have to do a review of a well-known album and just mention Lewis's name - that may be one of the few ways to make people aware of this inspiring musician and stylist .
This music is groovy and emotional - go for a drive on a sunny day with this album playing loud . There is a lot going on in the music , but it is mixed with great care and all comes through wonderfully .
Neglected only as it's not as well promoted .
Give it a try and have your horizons expanded !!

JEAN CARNE - COLLABORATIONS
Jean Carne "Collaborations" Album Review
A true collector's item.
This CD is by no means a greatest hits collection of Jean's work but rather a compilation of her duets and collaborations with others. It covers almost her entire career and as such is very much a collector's item.

AL GREEN - GETS NEXT TO YOU
Al Green "Gets Next to You" Album Review
Al Greens second album
Al Green always had his own nice & distinctive style back in the day. For his second album, 1970s 'Al Green Gets Next To You', he brings a flavour that might surprise a lot of people.
Yes this album contains his awesome classic 'Tired Of Being Alone', but the other nine cuts here are of a hard edged fonk nature, with gritty vocals & dusty bass lines and riffs. the album kicks off with the heavy hitting Temptations cover 'I Can't Get Next To You', and also has a refreshing and quirky interpretation of 'Light My fire'. My personal cut has to be the demented Taurus dedication 'I'm A Ram' which rides the craziest bass line. Overall the whole vibe of the album is some ole fashioned Rhythm & Blues with no small sprinkling of funk.
Overall this is some essential 70s soul, and whilst I don't appreciate record labels cluttering albums with left overs (Takes away some of the albums punch), I do appreciate the remastering. A classic album.
